Hello from Nashville. We are finally back to traveling and it has truly been an exciting trip so far. We arrived at our hotel last night in time to settle in for the night to prepare for our big day today.
This morning was a nice easy morning starting with breakfast and warm-ups right here at the hotel. Then we hit the ground running for the day.
Our first stop, Ocean Way Nashville Recording Studios. The choir was able to record in one of the largest recording studios in the world. This studio is where all of the music for Spiderman, Roblox, Fortnight, and Call of Duty were recorded. Big names in country, classical, pop, rap, and every other genre have been recorded here as well, including Luke Bryan, Dan+Shay, Toby Keith, the list goes on. They even recorded someone named Taylor Swift (I guess she is Travis Kelce's girlfriend?). This was such an amazing opportunity for the kids to have. The chamber choir's music will be available at a later date on Spotify, Apple Music, and ITunes.
From there we went downtown Nashville for the afternoon. We had lunch and then off to the National Museum of African American Music where they performed two pieces in a concert featuring all of the choirs from the festival in the lobby of the museum for each other and for the public. Beautiful sounds rang through the building.
Touring the museum after the performance was another incredible opportunity.
The museum is dedicated to all music influenced and inspired by African Americans throughout history from the early 1600's to the present. Everyone had wristbands where you could scan any music throughout the museum into a playlist which was then emailed to you after you leave. Everyone should have a great mix of music to come home with.
From the museum we boarded the bus to go to Trevecca Nazarene University. This beautiful university is set within the heart of Nashville. We had a taco dinner before a concert to showcase new song writers and performers which happened to include a beautiful performance by twelve of our talented chamber singers singing a piece called "Rest" written by Kickapoo's own, Cole Dobbs. What an amazing job by Cole, the singers, and all who performed.
A stop by Maggie Moo's for ice cream was a spur of the moment choice on the way back to the hotel. Now we are back and resting after a very busy day. Tomorrow is more sight seeing, performing, singing, dancing and, most of all, making memories.
Until tomorrow, good night from Nashville.
Kristin
